Actually you won't notice much. The only thing noticeable is at the fire in the first scene on the water: under DX9 you will notice slight edging of the fire particles which is less visible under DX10. Since the game wasn't developed for DX10 specifically you won't see a difference at all (as opposed to Company of Heroes or World in Conflict for example)

Company of Heroes wasn't developed for DX10 out of the gate either, it had it patched in recently.

And they've said in the past that DX10 only takes DX9 and improves it slightly. Just like 10.1 is doing to 10.

Bioshock is actually one of the first games to come out with DX10 support.

i saw a youtube vid. that showed a big daddy walk into falling(rushing out of wall)water and the water didn't just go through the big daddy like it would in most games. it actuallu went AROUND the big daddy. plus i know that the water physics, body physics, and other things are GEAT in this game. can i get that same power running dx 9? im hoping that dx10 jsut makes the deatail a bit better. PLZ HELP!!

Brendon110, be ready to fork over a hunky $300+ for a new video card. Also, be ready to fork over $100+ for a copy of vista home premium (or better). You can only get DirectX 10 with Vista (XP + 8800 card = no DX10).

    ADDITIONALLY! PEOPLE!

Just as a heads up, There are some SERIOUS issues involving the Vista's DirectX 10 compatibility with the game atm. IF you experience a crash shortly after the "bioshock" logo, find the shortcut on your desktop, right click > select "properties" > In the end of the "target" field, after the endquote, type '-dx9' (without the apostraphes seen here). This will force your game to run in DirectX 9 (even if you're running vista + 8 series card). It will resolve the issue, but be aware, doing so CAN cause rather unsightly texture-death to in game models.

My suggestion: Wait for 2K to bend to the will of hundreds of gamers crying out from game crashes and make a worthwhile patch. GAME IS BUGGY.

i played the game for 1.5 hours on my core duo notebook with geforce go 7900 gtx card on XP while creating the trainer. no crashes or weird effects and the game was maxed out in graphics options but it ran it at 1280 by 1024. i never crashed in the game once and never saw any unusual problems during the game. seems stable in xp. i have not tested it in DX-10 but the trainer should work on either.

    best,

The crash is only apparent in Vista. There are also odd crashes if you have a DX 10 card running XP.

the only problem i had was the blacked out textures with the simple ATI bioshock hotfix fixed. aside from that i got an 80-100FPS throughout the entire game running on the following:

    -1280x1024
    -DX10 ON
    -All graphics maxed

    System Specs:
    -Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    -AMD Athlon 64 6000+ 3.1Ghz
    -4GB DDR2 8300+ RAM
    -ATI HD 2900 XT 512MB

ran perfectly after the fix. not a single problem or slow down after.
