Could be a perception thing, but the comp players do seem a bit more buffed than usual when the trainer is active.
I have cheated this game in the past, by just hacking the money and buying the research. Doing it that way is irritating & takes a long time to research, as you fail a lot when you pump in money. Even getting my research where I want it that way using way more turns than with the trainer, it seems the computer isn't nearly as buff.
May warrant some further inspection... Otherwise, sure made me pickup this game again.

Okay,
I think I have it partially figured out, but not completely narrowed down. The computer players do get helped by this trainer, but only from certain options. 1 or multiple options, (have not pinpointed them) help the computer. They are F3-F5 options to help population and infrastructure. One of these or more than one help the computer. To get the overwhelming technology advantage you have always wanted without being overwhelmed by enemy numbers and technology, simply activate F1 & F2 options only and you will get it.

Has anyone else noticed that this game is eerily familiar to the old DOS/95 game Ascendancy? I think its a spin off of that game. If you haven't ever played it, it does work with win98 and is quite addicting...I would recommend checking it out and noticing the similarities to SOTS.
