Good list Garminius, just one question. How do we figure out what units we can and can't use? I'm going to play as the English, so how do I know which units are engish units? I have read that you can't use units your not supposed to have, so is there a way to find out what units I can use for the English Campaign?

Greetings fellow TOTAL WAR fans.
The list I posted is for the English only. But say you wanted a unit list for the French. You…
1. Create a “Custom Battle” 2. Select the French 3. Select one of each unit 4. Save the army as “French” 5. Go back to the desktop and open the file “French.cax” located in the “armies” folder with notepad.
You will notice that amongst others, both the English and the French can have “Knights Templar”, but only the French can have “Flemish Pikemen Mercs”
Repeat this process for every faction and you will have all the unit names available for each one.
Hope you can follow all that. It was much easier when we had the “export_descr_unit.txt” file to play with.

Cool, thanks M8, that's what I wanted to know. And I agree, it will be nice to get my hands on the "export_descr_unit.txt" file. Then I can fix things the way I want. Hope they come out with the unpacking tool soon.

I can't get Retinue Longbowmen to work, but Sherwood Archers are 100x better anyway so it hasn't bothered me.
Just out of interest, has anyone else had the same problem?

To get Retinue Longbowmen you have to use "Dismounted Longbowmen".
e.g.
create_unit London "Dismounted Longbowmen" 2 9 3 3

English only has 1 gunpowder unit?
Also, are the Knights Templar and Sherwood Archers the best units of each type for the English?
