HOW DO YOU GET A TRAINER TO WORK

i do not understand how you get a trainer to work. Do you open it up and then do something with it or play the game because its a shortcut like succumbus or do u copy it into the resource file i really need to know (note there are at least 10 games that have trainers but i dont know how to use them really frustrating)

thx pwiz i was so annoyed when there were so many trainers i couldent use.
