Actually, they're both fairly wanted in end-game raids or middle level instances mainly because of their high burst damage. So,I'll suggest you to find what class is more wanted on your server but otherwise both of them are good for raids. Also, both of them are good for PvP especially if your mage is frost spec.

Its harder to find good warlocks on my server. End game guilds are almost always looking for more 60 locks. I also find there's less competition for gear among warlocks compared to mages. however since your a lower level, and the new talents coming up, many people are starting to roll warlocks, so pick which one you have more fun playing and play it.

Look warlocks and mages are similar in many ways. They do massive damadge, they wear cloth, the are obvious casters and they are good PvE and PvP.It really just depends if u want to do massive damadge in short time or massive damadge over time...Personally i think warlocks are more fun casue u can dot someone 20 times then go afk and u know they will die . ...its really up to u what type of huge damadge u wanna do
