If you have a HP Printer try disconnecting it before playing - as ridiculous as it sounds, they've been known to cause crashes in oblivion

I have the exact same problem with the game. It crashes on me when im just boppin around...it can be on the world map or just in a town. i dont know why this happens. my game runs on medium set graphics and i dont have any lag. i have a x700pro video card and 1024mb of ram and a 500 watt power supply.
im as confused as you are about why this happens. i have so much fun playing it but the crashing part just makes me not want to play the game.
anyone know why this is ahppening? i donwloaded the new patch as well.

I talked to technical support and u need to set the soundacceleration to standard in dxdiag. You must also uninstall all codec packs. I also found out that xfire way oblivion up.. hope this helps you. It worked for me and the games runs fine...

It sometimes does that with some of my games too... it'll really screw you up, especially if you didn't save it and it crashes. ... Sometimes the sound will just quit and I have to restart the comp.

Check your PC config. ie.
For me, the game crashes and crashes
I check, i have 2 GB of MRAM, one of my DIMS are PC2700 an the others are PC3200 i must set the memory system to 333 Mhz if i want to play whit all 2 GB, and to 400 Mhz if i wish to play only with 1.5 GB, check that, works for me
