You just need to be very careful and time everything. If you have the editor panel open and watch the cash value, it will likely not match. The key is to spend money, build a power wire or something trivial just to force the game to update the value. You will then see the trainer lock on to this new value. You have a narrow window of time to make a quick change to the value before it gets lost again.

I notice this most recent patch has messed up the ability to lock onto research values for more then a split second, but it does not really matter as since you can stop game time by putting a 0 value to replace the 1080 and you can give yourself money, life goes on. One thing to note: stopping time has potential impacts on certain quests as it seems time does need to pass for some things to trigger ...

oh ok, open trainer make sure it all up and running.
edit cash 9999999999 then build something that takes cash like a power wire. Boom you now have more than enough cash to buy everything you need.

Worked for me last night on a new playthrough.

I do not know if anyone tried, but.
Use CoSMOS, and edit deposits size, just do not go overboard, i se mine to only 9 milion of ore after i spent 1 for achievement.
