I'm getting an error message each time I start Aurora. I've tried re-installing/replacing unzipped files. I think I'm using the portable version. It's the zip folder with all the ~300 files.

    System Specs:
    Win 11 Home 22H2 Build 22621.3737
    Intel i7-12800HX
    64 GB RAM

Your system has a corrupted or missing path for the internet cache folder. To fix this open the registry, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" and fix all wrong paths there. Then reboot your computer.

I didn't notice any wrong paths compared to the values listed here: www.winhelponline.com/blog/windows-10-shell-folders-paths-defaults-restore/

Everything matched, but I ran the scripts to restore default values to be sure. Still not working. I then tried changing the "Cache" entry from the default to the Chrome (my work browser) cache; still not working. I tried the Brave (my non-work browser) cache; still not working. I re-ran the registry scripts, so everything is Windows default.

Other info in case it helps:

I don't use internet explorer, edge, firefox, or opera.

Someone suggested using Tweaking.com's Windows Repair to repair the registry, but it also doesn't want to open; error 0xc00000ba. I ran "sfc \scannow" because someone suggested that in another forum as a troubleshooting step for Windows Repair. No errors detected.

Your error code 0x80072EE4 is WININET_E_INTERNAL_ERROR and its thrown in get_InternetCacheFolder. So somehow it fails to get the internet cache folder. It doesn't matter if you dont use IE. IE is bound deeply into the system including windows APIs, its used in background.

Last time a user has got this problem the person said he ran CCleaner, rebooted and it was fixed. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a more concrete solution over the distance. SFC scan would have been my other suggestion. Or try and reset IE settings: Link

I ran CCleaner and fixed all the errors it showed (nothing seemed related to cache, though). Rebooted; It's still not working. I've also tried to reset the IE settings, but I don't seem to have IE on my computer anymore. I can't find anything related to resetting more than home page and bookmarks, but I reset those to be safe. Still nothing.

At this point, I'm thinking I may just need to reinstall Windows.

EDIT June 22, 2024: The error does not show when I am offline. Probably makes sense, but I thought I'd make note of it in case it means something. I can download bookmarked trainers for use offline if I dismiss the error message, but I can't use the search while on- or offline.

EDIT July 2, 2024: I don't know why this worked, but I no longer have the error message. I followed the guide at Link to fix a Windows Store issue and it fixed this problem as well. Note that I had to also reclaim ownership of my specific user directory under C:\Users after following the guide. Hope this helps someone else who has a similar issue.
