It seems the displayed shards and where the game stores the actual shards number is different; when I edit the number of metal shards, it shows up with the new number up top in the menu, but when I go to buy items, it doesn't reflect this, even though the new number is reflected in the sell items number.
If I buy or sell items, it changes the number displayed in the top of the menu, but that number doesn't extend to buying things, and when I reload a save, it reverts to the buying number, not keep the new number.
Exactly this.
So, Cal, mate, if according to your testing everything is fine and dandy, and everyone else is having an issue with changing shards, there are two options:
1. Your testing was sloppy.
2. The trainer file you use is different from the file we use.
Either way, the trainer does NOT work as intended.

Video of it here working and how I used it to test. I have 1000 other things to do today, so I hope taking time to make this wasn't "sloppy"

Try picking up a shard or using a shard to craft..
I just posted a video of it working, so I have nothing else to add.
And it will be removed since nobody sent any save games that supposedly I could use to repeat this and all I got was a snotty d*ckish post about my sloppy habits from somebody who (I suppose) is too lazy to send a save game with clear instructions on how to reproduce their issue.
So be it.
best,
Cal

Mate,
I get that you're stressed. Running your own business is anything but easy, and I understand that this issue isn't particularly high on your list of priorities.
That's all well and good, but meeting your customers' concerns about your product with snarky quotation marks is what I was being "snotty" about.
By the way, in your video you were reproducing the issue yourself without noticing. Therefore I'll say it again, the upper number your were pointing to in your video is just cosmetic and didn't match the number in parentheses above the words "Metal Shards" and next to the "25" you were so concerned with. That number indicates the amount of shards the game is actually working with, and when you are at 0 and use the trainer option, you still can't buy anything.
So, I attached a save file with 35 shards. Please, use your trainer option and see if you can buy anything in-game that costs more than 35 shards. Bet you can't.
On that note, good night and good luck.
Smurf, out.
