To temporarily disable the Hotkeys, press CTRL-H after trainer is

I just tested it and it works fine. If your whole party dies you will have zero gold. The way it works for me is:

1. Create a new game (not necessary just the way I tested it)
2. Directly enter the maze
3. Open camp, add gold to first character. Reswitch to him to make sure it has been added
4. Leave camp, make 180° turn and leave the maze using the stairs
5. Gold at top right goes from 0 to 100
6. Go to trading post and successfully purchased something
