Can anyone discuss how to do this? I cannot do it. Therefore the trainer may only be for CAMPAIGN.

For me (launched from Ubisoft Connect/Uplay+) I went to Skirmish>Casual> 1 vs 1 >Start Matchmaking and it started a game against "Astrid" but it appeared to be an AI because I couldn't take any Player Actions like adding as a friend. I joined again after leaving and it was "Astrid" again so it's clearly an AI.
Also note that when I clicked on Skirmish and Casual it says "Play alone or with other players against AI enemies" suggesting the opponent is always an AI if it says Casual.
The first time I tried loading a Skirmish (clicking Start Matchmaking) the game crashed, but I tried again and it worked.
Also attached a picture of the screen inside of a Skirmish match showing the opponent.

The Casual one seems to be just AI players, and PVP one is the online one.
Just tried to join a match 1vs1 did not try 4vs4 or anything but should be the same i would guess.
Edit: Tried doing a 4vs4 and it seems to try and look for players so looks like yeah campaign is the only one, since they did this mess of a system it seems very hardcoded with multiplayer involved this time around.

Seems Hardcore is a invite friends only thing so not sure how that works, but once you go 2vs2 and 4vs4 it seems coop plays a part for the players team, so this skirmish system they made needs to be changed down the line for me to want to play that even the map choice is horrible under settings you can add or remove the maps for 1vs1 and so forth so not even able to choose a bigger map with 1vs1 you are locked in.
