Steam deck, I was able to add the folder on standalone trainers, but it still does not show up on the downloaded/standalone section when I run the game. I tried restarting still does not show up, I have given up and just uninstall the game.
Where you add the aurora.exe in steam tinker launch is where you would add the standalone exe. I haven't gotten a standalone to work for me but other users have said they have. So its really hit or miss and its up to you to see if they work or not.
As always, if you provide the game name and if I own it I would test it and let you know if i can run it.

Hey SteadyFreddy.
I've tested Shadow of Mordor with the standalone and does indeed work. Only tried unlimited focus and arrows since I didnt want to bother with adding numpad numbers to my back buttons just to remove them later. Dont add standalones to your aurora app. Instead just add the trainers exe into where aurora.exe would go in steam tinker launch. I don't own GTAIV so wont be able to test that one.
Confirmed working with Heroic Games Launcher. Process is very straightforward.
1.) Click the gear button on the specific game you want to run with Aurora to be brought to the game's settings, and then on the left in the Other tab is a section for environment variables.
2.) Set the environment variable PROTON_USE_WINED3D with a value of 1 to allow Aurora to function.
3.) Launch game through HGL.
4.) To run Aurora, click the gear button on the specific game and at the bottom of the Wine tab is a button to "Run EXE on Prefix". Click this and select the Aurora executable.
5.) Login, disable hardware acceleration and the process watcher in Aurora settings.
Afterwards, close both the game and Aurora and then remove that environment variable, and you should be good to go.
It may be possible to launch Aurora automatically on game launch through some other config, but I don't know how that would be done myself, so until then, running Aurora is something you'll have to do manually each time you launch the game.
I'd also like to mention this was all done in desktop mode, I know it's possible to add HGL games to Steam to launch in game mode but I don't run them that way and don't know how this configuration might be done for game mode.

So, I’ve been trying this method to get aurora to work for dead island 2, but it just doesn’t work, no matter what I do, I’ve even tried re-installing dead island 2, at the expense of my save game, and still nothing. To run dead island 2 on my steam deck I have to use a version of wine known as: Wine-GE-Proton7-43. I dont know if this might be what’s causing it, or not. I cannot find a way to get the aurora to open. If you need any details on my system info let me know, as I’m not sure what all I’d have to give to help someone find a solution to this problem for me :/

That method doesnt work. if you want to run epic games with aurora you need to add aurora.exe as a non-steam game to steam. go to the Dead Island trainer, scroll down to "trainer settings" then add a path to game path. Instead of the games exe path you will add the launchers exe path. After you press the "launch game" button it will open up the launcher(epic) you will go to your game then launch it through there. So you are launching Aurora through steam, Epic through Aurora, then the game through Epic. It's the only way I've gotten it to work.
New problem, I have no idea how to get to /var/lib/flatpak… the location that heroic games launcher is located in this file explorer
Edit: Im attempting to use epic as you stated in your explanation but i have little hope as dead island 2 doesn’t seem to work unless it is on Wine-GE-Proton7-43
Edit 2: so it’s “running” or so the epic games launcher says it is. There is no game to be seen as nothing has popped up. But my steam deck’s fans have gotten louder like something is happening.

See if you can install nonsteamlauncher Link then install epic. that should give you the exe you need. You should be able to transfer your library to it by renaming folders.
What versions of proton do you have installed?
