The Edit food option, I can't make sense of.
The number in the trainer when activated does not match the number of bread in game. How does it work?
This is the reserves food for the SETTLEMENT. It would be in the info when you hover over one of the icons on the top bar upper right. Same for FUEL.

my game keeps crashing at random points in gameplay. I used to be able to play for long periods of time, but now it crashes the moment i click any building after a couple minutes. I used the recommended fixes mentioned above in this threat and on steam, but they dont seem to work for me anymore. Any ideas?
the trainer must work fine if there are no update requests
I would suggest verifying the game files and then creating a new save
