Make sure to refresh every minute or so to make sure your name shows up on the who is online list.

You're correct, it doesn't do that. What it should do if I understood correctly is keep you active on the site making your name pop up when they pull names to add to the prize packs. If you're refreshing the page manually anyway, then it doesn't matter.
