It's quite possible that it might REQUIRE the DLC in order to work. If that is the case then there is not really anything we can do about it as we can't go backwards. This has happened with a couple of other games like Civ 6.
Also note where you purchased the game and check the exact version number and post that info with your savegame.
I have found out that by not having the dlc the latest trainer will not allow you to edit level and experience. They remain at ??. Using the latest trainer to edit skills will work, but revert to trainer V5 dated 23rd September to allow you to edit level and experience. Once you've edited level and experience SAVE GAME, revert back to the latest trainer, load game and happy playing.😁.
Ok this may seem to others as a bit long winded, but this is the best way right now, you can't blame anything on Cal who is just the goat (greatest of all time)

Thank you for doing some testing and posting this solution. We had a hunch this might be the case.
No worries, you guys go above and beyond on a daily basis. to me it is all about give and take.
Just to reiterate though.
If you don't have Phantom Liberty (if you are like me I always wait a week or two before getting a new dlc for any game, just to give the devs time to iron out any issues at release) use V5 dated 23rd Sept. Use this trainer to edit level and experience values. SAVE GAME. Then use the latest trainer (V8) to edit everything else and continue using the trainer to continue playing. See you in NC punkers.
On a side note. CD Projekt Red missed a great opportunity to launch Phantom Liberty on August 20 2023 as this is the in game date that Johnny blew up Arasaka Tower.

I added the info you provided to the original post so hopefully people will see it.

No Problems Chris. Hopefully Cali might be able to find a way to incorporate the two trainers for those who don't want P. L.
Hi. When I start the game from the trainer for the latest version of the trainer the game thinks I am using a controller to play the game. Please keep in mind that I am not using a controller and that no controller is plugged into my computer.
Windows Key + X -> Device Manager -> HID Compliant/Human Interface Devices AND the Bluetooth Categories. See anything listed besides a keyboard/mouse. Probably a false positive on the controller. Shouldn't matter if it thinks there is one or not as long as you don't switch it to controller mode in the trainer.
Hello.
I would kindly like to point out that the level and level experience options in the editor do not appear to work for me. All other options seem to work as intended in the trainer and the editor. I am not sure why these values remain at "??" in the editor.
Evidently I am using the trainer correctly seeing all the other trainer and editor options work just fine. I did not purchse the newly released DLC yet, however older version of the trainer do not seem to work on these values either.
Thank you for your consideration.
If you are using the latest version of the trainer and you have not got the new dlc installed that would probably be why the trainer is not working. I believe it was mentioned earlier that version 1.6x or something similar was the last version of the game before 2.0 and the dlc dropped so try rolling back your trainer version to either 1.xx or the first 2.0 trainer, #i understand you said you have tried older versions of the trainers, but this this should help.
