Just to be devil's advocate, and post from the view of Caliber:
I work in IT support at a large University. The sheer number of stupid support tickets we get, with a fairly large amount being user error, can lead to being very jaded, and for the most part, completely fed up. It can be very hard to maintain civility when you see stupid on the constant basis, you start assuming, based on experience, that something must be user error, because it happens so much.
So I can see where Caliber is coming from, and can empathize with his response. It might not have been correct this time, but from experience, it is the often go-to response, the end user is doing something wrong.
Just my two pence.
I appreciate everyone's views. This said, I have used pc like machines since the old 8080 processor models, way before the 286, 386, 486, first Pentium 60mhz, and on and on.
Replying "CAPITALIZING" words, irrespective of what the word is, essentially says "are you really stupid or what?" Much like shouting as we all know well and good, ever since the first chats went on between universities and research centres, before the regular joe even knew what a Pc was, and was paying about 2000 dollars to buy a Commodore Vic 20, then a Commodore 64 and its overpriced tape recorder that via sound beeps loaded a program....
He could have simply replied as the user before mentioned and that would have been that. His text clearly implied CONTEMPT, and that displayed to a paying supporter, who was already a Life Member and didn't have to want to pay extra because he supported early on, but still believed in the work the people do and said "What the hell, I'll chip in to help more than I already have, so as to ensure success" and then not even get polite treatment and even now, the allmighty Caliber, who has read the post, DIDN'T OFFER THE MINIMAL RESPECT IN SIMPLY REPLYING!" ANd this is my 2 pence, cents or eurocents, on the matter.
Maybe, just maybe someone else is right and you should allow the possibility you as an almighty Wiz Kid could have been victim of your own Vanity and not taken into account that programs vary, hardware varies, and many other factors may make it so that though a Genius, you may still get things on the opposite side of right.
I do read instructions, I do what I read and am instructed to do, but if it still fails, I get blasted because things still don't work?
Ok.
And I always appreciated the work done, in the past present or future. I always was polite and respectful, clearly that is not a virtue but plays to my detriment.
