Try on new game, save may have values that are irrelevant now. Recommend to turn off cloud saves and use local only.
Sorry for not having mentioned that earlier but testing on a new game is the first thing I tried after I saw it didn't work with the savegame. No joy in either case.
As for disabling cloud saves, there's no option in Steam to disable or enable cloud saving for this particular game. I seem to remember (not sure) reading something in the notes from a previous patch about developers disabling cloud saving themselves because they were running into problems with it.
Also while I was testing a bit more with the trainer, I realized that the "Unlock Developer Menu" option is non functional too.

Is anyone else having an issue with getting the dev console button after pressing 'esc' to show up? I have also noticed when I try to activate the dev console through the game (F3) without the trainer, the button to enable/disable it is gone from the menu. Did the game devs remove the ability to use the console, or am I going crazy? Thanks everyone!
Well, I don't knows what the devs did with this update but yeah, there are things that are definitely not as before.
Although in the case of the developer menu button you can install a utility called QMod from the Nexus (that anyway is required by just about any Subnautica mod out there). Once installed QMod create a new "Mod" section in the game settings from which you can enable developer mode which brings back the developer menu button.
If possible post saves for the trainer maker to have and let them know they are posted along with instructions to duplicate what is happening.
I will post saves if needed but something just happened that might be more relevant to the trainer maker.
In order to create a new clean save, I started the game, once at the main menu I pressed F1 and then I had two "failed" before "trainer activated".
The log shows:
19:52:40: Subnautica: Below Zero, Aug-2021 45391 (STEAM)
19:56:34: Successfully attached to SubnauticaZero
19:56:36: Connecting to mono pipe failed
19:56:36: player, Script error in line 3: 'Player:Update+20' is 0 or not a valid address
Edit: Sorry ignore this post. I had two instances of the trainer running which is possibly the cause of that particular error. 😖
