I'm having the same problem as other people on this thread. Antivirus off. No mods active. Running everything as administrator.
If I activate the trainer at the main menu it takes a while to activate, but eventually does. It lets me start or load a game just fine. When I try to activate anything the trainer crashes.
If I activate the trainer after starting a game, it also takes a long time to activate, but eventually does. As soon as I click on a unit the game crashes.
No mods active is incorrect. You must have RISE AND FALL enabled under mods/additional content in the main menu for the trainer to work.
BOOM:
"If I activate the trainer at the main menu"
this is incorrect. Please activate once you are in the game and can move your sims.
If it's 'taking a long time' then likely the trainer is being blocked, or the .dll is incorrect, which means you are using an old save from pre-DLC version of the game.
the trainer has the option to copy and send debug info..

Cal

I know it's incorrect; I was seeing if it made a difference. It did, but unfortunately not a helpful one.

I can't imagine what would be blocking it, since I'm running it as administrator and antivirus is off. I have been testing it on a brand new game, right after starting my first city. I have never tried it on an old save.
