I was having the same issue. For some reason the trainer was not showing up in windows defender with the option to allow it after it reported and removed it. I cleared everything related to that trainer, rebooted, re-downloaded the trainer. Ran the trainer as admin and after running it it deleted it again, only this time it actually showed up in windows defender to allow me to grant it access and restore it, now its working.

Ok so it appears that even though I disabled BG it was still picking it up. So after launching the trainer with BG up it just asked me to grant it permission to open. Now it seems to work. Very strange.

I get an error when i try to activate the trainer.

Current trainer is still working. Are you using any beta/mod etc. version? Also, GOG or steam?

I have downloaded the update, Thanks again.

Before I downloaded the update I had no issues at all.
After the update I am getting the following error, I no clue what it means so I hope you can help me.

Information: 0 : Trainer version: 1.5
Information: 0 : Trainer is up to date.
Information: 0 : Attaching to process: RailwayEmpire
Information: 0 : Successfully attached
Error: 0 : city: Cannot find aob!

I really hope that will help you with whatever bug this may or may not be.. please if you can keep me posted that would be great.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I had downloaded the update via Trainer Manager. I also open the trainers via manager

Please clear your Windows Temp folder and cache, reboot your PC, make sure you have created the suggested scan exclusions in your security software as described in the instructions, launch our trainer with admin rights and try again.

Good for health, bad for education.
