Bitdefender made a bad move with their Advanced Threat Defense module. To me it seems more like a rushed implementation because of the ransom ware attacks earlier this year and last year. This feature was already in their 2017 products, hidden in the settings and disabled by default. But if you now dare to disable it, you'll be doomed!
Many security software companies use BD's database and it's still one of the best products on the market. It's slick and doesn't have an impact on your system's resources with great protection. But they're on the brink to make it a crappy bloatware with a huge number of different modules all over to deceive the user into a false sense of security.
Don't use McAfee or Webroot. Both are not able to exclude a whole folder, which is, imho a key feature not only when it comes to our trainers.
As always: Know what you're dealing with and what the software can do for you and how it does it. Don't rely on automated processes but set everything to manual override, get notified and be asked what to do and how to deal with something. You should have the control, not the other way around.
Take a look at the current performance of security software here -> Link or here -> Link, download trial versions and install them in a virtual machine or get a first impression by watching some videos on our AV Notification page here -> Link
Thanks for the thorough reply, I loved Bitdefender when I joined them a year ago and now they just cause more problems than anything. I've used Kaspersky briefly before and have a friend who's used them for years. Would you recommend them? Only downside is I can only use up to 5 users instead of 10.
