None of the trainer's options seem to be working for me. I do hear the "activated" sound, but nothing is happening. I tried running as administrator, turning off anti virus and making sure I have the correct version. I also tried running the training out of the Sporebin and the SporebinEP1 folder. Not only that, but when the trainer is running, the game crashes whenever the game has to load a different area (planet, solar system, galaxy etc). This only happens when the trainer is running, the game runs fine without it.
I am using Windows 10 pro.

Turning off an Anti-virus most of the time does not stop the background processes from running, make sure your trainers are in a folder that you have told your anti-virus to exclude from scans and allow to run. If you need help with how to do this a thread is here:

I just added both the folder and the trainer itself to my virus scanner's exclusion list, didn't change anything I'm afraid. Trainer options still do not work and the trainer still makes the game crash.

There is no guarantee for a trainer to work on Windows 10 just because the trainer page says 'Windows 7 and above' I am afraid. The important part is the '(may be compatible with additional versions)' in this.
Did you try to temporarily completely uninstall your security software, obtain an offline key, go offline and ran the trainer?

I'm currently using only Windows Defender and I'm not sure it's even possible to uninstall that, and I rather not try. I guess i'll just have to accept the fact that W10 does not mix well with this particular trainer and play something else, thanks for the help.

Just wanted to add a note for anyone with GOG version (Currently 3.1.0.22) that the trainer seems to work only within the adventure mode (captain health, cooldowns and the like).
However if I load a game in the space stage, even without activating an option, i.e. only with the trainer activated, the game will hang and break in interesting ways, ultimately forcing me to kill the application.
I wasn't really expecting much since I'm running the GOG version, but I do find it interesting that merely activating the trainer causes issues in space stage games. ¯\_(ツ_/¯
