To get more points when making a custom race is as easy as it is in the previous game.
Go to: Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Endless Space 2\Public\Simulation\
Open this file with notepad: FactionTraits[Affinity].xml
Find the race you want to make a custom race of and edit the cost of their faction affinity.
I hope this is of some help to someone
Om du forstår dette, da kan du Norsk.

I made an account just so I could thank you for this because I have been trying to find where to do this for literally ever and I almost gave up playing the game with how frustrating playing my fave faction is without this so thank you oh my god thank you so so much you are the best.

Unfortunately there's a limit on how many traits custom races get, any idea on how to edit that?

Yeah, its a bit of a pain in the ass but there is a way. In the same directory as factiontraits[affinity].xml there is another file named FactionTraits[Major].xml. You have to open that up, and copy the line IgnoreForTraitsCount="true" and paste it into the code for each trait
Personally I put it in just before the "Family=" part of each trait, but I assume as long as you put it inside the factiontrait snippet it will work fine.
I've tried and tested it and it definitely works.

Wanted to say thanks for this information - works great.
I'd also point out that the costs for the Population traits are in the following files. PopulationPoliticalTraits.xml PopulationCollectionBonusTraits.xml PopulationModifiersTraits.xml
Also of note is when editing the Cost="100" value in FactionTraits[Affinity].xml - change it to something MORE than 100 - cost is misleading, what it really means is 'points available'

So if you edit these xml files in the Public folder does that cause any issue with Steam achievements do you know?
