The Circle size is a bit controversial.
What ive come to seemingly find out for myself is, that while the color of the circle does indicate strength, attempting to catch a pokemon at a different circle size depends on the size of the pokemon as well.
To get good catch ratings for example, you'll want to try to get the circle to resemble the size of the pokemon.
Now while ive done this with a little trial and error, it does seem to work this way.
Oh, and nice cheats list btw, I had no idea what the battery saver did lol, but now I do

I have noticed that to get a great/excellent throw you have to land the ball inside the circle. So the smaller the circle the better bit for the best chance land your throw in the center of that circle.
