Sorry I'm such a late arrival but I also had a heck of a time getting the trainer to work for MEC. Another person posted to basically keep pressing F1 and it would work eventually. That was true for me, but what I found worked even better (Windows 8.1) was to launch the trainer first like normal, launch the game, ESC to the pause/game menu, and instead of pressing F1, ALT + TAB to exit back to Windows desktop, I would see the trainer sitting there with "game not found" status... and there press F1 and it loads every time "Trainer Activated" Game Found, then just click back into the game on the Windows task bar and it works perfectly, every time for me. Hope this helps others.
This works! I just now got the game + trainer and tried to use it for the first time, and I noticed pressing F1 in the game wasn't doing anything.
I followed brockly22's advice above (alt-tab to the trainer and then press F1) and the trainer activated immediately and changed from "game not found" to "game is running."
Thanks to CH for the trainer and to brockly22 for the tip. You guys have made my night!

Trainer is looking for
MirrorsEdgeCatalyst.exe
to be running. It looks like something is blocking the injection of code into the game by the trainer.
