But Is simply having the trainer "on" gonna get you a soft ban? Or is it messing with stats?
Like will occasionally popping unlimited health or raising souls online instantly softban you? Or do you have to basicslly get caught still?

You have to get caught by the server checks or reported by another player. So yes, you can use the trainer and not get softbanned if no one ever finds out you're using a trainer (immediately disabled HP/SP options when invading or indaded) or you do nothing to trigger the server side checks (I don't know the extent of those checks though, so I would research this; the poster above says there are item caps, but are there more?).

Cool, yea just tryin to figure out what checks are made. I won't invade as it's just not my bag really, I enjoy match type pvp in other games. But id just like to occasionally use health and add soul's.

The game has only been out about 3 hours.. anyways..
Numpad 1: Unlimited Health - toggle on and most things cannot harm you.
Numpad 2: Unlimited Mana - toggle on and your mana refills faster.
Numpad 3: Unlimited Stamina - toggle on and your stamina refills faster.
Numpad 4: Easy Kills - toggle on and many enemies are killed much more quickly.
Numpad 5: Max Flasks/Items - toggle on and when you use many flasks and items, you will then have the maximum number of that item allowed. This option may require you to turn it off and back on from time to time. It's best to toggle this ON right before you use it. If the option appears to not be working any longer, toggle it off and then back on.
Numpad 6: Infinite Durability - toggle on and many items when used will have improved durability. This option may require you to turn it off and back on from time to time. It's best to toggle this ON right before you use it. If the option appears to not be working any longer, toggle it off and then back on.
Numpad 7: Mega Load - press option and your load capacity for carrying items in your inventory is massive.
F1: Add Vigor - each press adds more. You can modify the amount added by using the custom trainer ability.
F2: Add Attunement - each press adds more. You can modify the amount added by using the custom trainer ability.
F3: Add Endurance - each press adds more. You can modify the amount added by using the custom trainer ability.

Honestly, this is pretty fast response time. I expected you guys to take longer, so kudos on that. Keep up the good work, guys!
As for this discussion, all of what I posted is based on Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. Pure speculation based on how they handled online banning in a previous game.
Dark Souls III uses the Bloodbourne engine and has very similar online play from what I've seen, so I wouldn't expect anything radical, but I would expect at least a few things to change, just because the engine is new.
I maybe should have specified this from the start, I kinda did, but probably could have been even more specific.

So, being soft banned, does it make it impossible to join a friends game? or is that still possible? i'm asking for DS2, cause we don't really know how it is going to be in DS3.

Joining friends in DSIII is actually really easy. You can create a password that your friends can use that allows them to connect to your world.
As for DS2, I've never played it with friends, so I actually have to concede that I have no idea. :P
