well I spent about an hour of my day doing all manner of crap to try and just get this game to launch
I reinstalled steam, reinstalled the game, reinstalled the pre-reqs that come with the game, I tried starting with windows defender off, and admin priviledges, etc.
I'd love to look at the title, but just like many others posting here:
steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/
the game won't start from steam. it just closes or never opens.
I have too much work to try to make a stupid game simply LAUNCH. especially an 8 bit game using xna and is literally a joke (i.e. not using massive graphics or anything bizarre).
After 2 years, this game is still filled with tons of unfinished problems, and me not being able to launch the game after a patch pretty much I am done with it.
Maybe the next 3 patches this month will fix the problem..

That is VERY weird. I don't mind if you wait for a couple more patches of course - but the game installed just fine on my rig - and I did nothing special to get it installed. Just click install from the steam UI - then hit play game. Loads just fine. In fact, before the patch, I was easily able to switch from the stable to the new beta version - and then back again with absolutely no problems whatsoever.
Of course, I am still running Windows 7 64 bit. I can only assume you may be running a different version of windows. Either that or you need to do a total wipe and reinstall on your PC since something on it is really messing with its ability to install/play games. Or even easier setup a multi-boot on your PC - so you can have both versions running on your machine. That way you can always have a version of windows you only test games on - that you don't install questionable hack software on -or any questionable software whatsoever. Either scenario: try it on a freshly installed version of Windows. This is if the issue still presents itself after the small patches/hotfixes in the subsequent months ahead. Again - just a suggestion, I make the suggestion assuming you're like me and you can't stand it when a problem presents itself and you must find out what the ever loving crap is the issue. Since to me - that is weird. Can't run Stardew Valley? That is just insanely weird.
That being said - yeah you can EASILY expect there to be tons of extra little patches after a really big patch like this one. I have zero issues with you guys waiting - you guys have tons of games you are updating all the time - I get it. Let's wait until they are done with the little fixes first right?

I also have Windows7 64-bit and my game is launching fine from Steam (I didn't re-installed, steam just downloaded the patch).
But I agree that probably waiting a few days to see if they released a small patch to fix some bugs seems like a good idea.

I feel dirty to admit that the game runs on my Windows 10 Pro v1803 x64 PC without issues.

Im actually playing it for the first time GOG version so didnt run into the same issues as you and the others. Your work is very much appreciated. I ran inro a similar issue with another game where it kept crashing and found out it happened because the author wanted to try something so did an update that overwrote all my work and when I went to restore from backup, found out my windows update had a flaw where it displayed file names, but check in the folder, and nothing was inside. Since then, I put a block on all windows updates.
