I'm currently running around with Piper and I made her a set of pink power armor. I place cores in her inventory than commanded her to get in it. I like it
Spoiler:
Also if you do the railroad quest line Tinker tom will teach you ballistic weave which you can apply to most regular wear up to mark V. including headwear. At mark v stats are Damage 110-120 energy 110-120 protection. With headwear double that. That includes what some companions are wearing.
And I have piper because I didn't go to Diamond city till I was already 170 hrs in game as it pushes the game state to far forward to fast if you do valentine quest at least for me it did.

Companions do not use cores. No need to have the companion carry cores or even have a core in the power armor that they are using.

Ya I did it cause I had plenty. I wasn't expecting them to use it is the nature of the power armor to recharge when out if there in inventory.
And Piper is a gerbil she runs everywhere. And if you jump off a roof theres a good chance she will follow you 8) Ending up in broken power armor legs.

I belive finding issues of hot rod books grant new paint schemes for power armor. I think that's what it's called. All the books in the game (Comic books) Can be collected to boost many things. Even add more items to your settlement building menu. You can collect up to 10 copies of each comic book in game. And there are a lot. You can keep tabs on what ones you have by looking in the pipboy under data and perks I think.

two ways. 1) find the hot rod magazines in game 2) download a stand alone color scheme mod from fallout 4 nexus.
but do keep in mind that the nexus mod site isn't exactly pg-13. they have some questionable mods there i am not going to go into detail about it.
Since there are people who give me crap for my grammar and is to lazy to check my profile I will say it here as well. I am dyslexic so give me a break as I *TRY* to spell correctly.

You can go into your profile and block things like "Nudity" (or any of their other tags) if there are ones outside of the PG-13 rating that bother you.
