Have many people been creating custom races? Has anyone been able to get unlimited ability points in the creation of their custom race?
I am looking in the files and I am unable to find the right one to edit to allow more ability points. Nor have I had any luck getting CoSMOS to work, though I am no better than a novice with CE. If anyone has gotten this to work and could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Step 1 Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\Game
Step 2 Locate this file "RaceTraitSliderGroupDefs"
Step 3 Change all the "cost" (i.e 2) to 0
You should have the ability to choice traits without cost.
Haven't figured out how to edit the abilities through.

Actually you can created your own race traits or abilities through mod. No need to modify the original files.
The original ability/trait definition files are located in SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\Game which called AbilityDefs.xml and RaceTraitDefs.xml.
The content is pretty self-explanatory. It should be take less then ten minutes to get how to create you own ability/trait file.
I highly recommend created one single custom ability, and fill all the benefits you want in it. Ability is much easier to add into the game.
Put the custom ability file into C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods\(MOD name)\Game Then enable mod in game option.

I made a mod for a custom / cheat race. GalCiv3 Forums post Link Direct Download Link Link
Extract to your my documents\my games\galciv3\mods folder and enable mods within the game - then you can play as the Dirty RATS and start with a bunch of advantages, and extra credits, and 5 awesome planets in your home sector.
This race has +2 in everything, and all the bonuses except synthetic.

Howdy drgnfyre,
Tried the Dirty Rats, and while cool, I have a problem where about every fifth turn, the game crashes to the desktop. If I disable mods and use a newly created custom race, I don't have the problem.
Strangeness.

I've updated this slightly - now you start with 5 Class 20 planets, some extra money, and an extra ship or two. I also tried bumping up the resistance for planet defense, but am not entirely sure if it worked correctly.
