If you have played FTL (Faster Than Light), this is very similar in everything from its art style to its gameplay.

It's simple in concept, but it isn't an easy game. It's unforgiving as all hell (just like FTL can be), and there's quite a bit of dice-rolling involved. (If you get lucky and manage to get a decent vehicle/weapon early on, you're well off for quite a while.)

There are downsides (in my honest opinion) to the similarity as well, I was hoping for things like a larger inventory, more RPG-esque/meta progression functionality/-ies and stuff like that. Unfortunately, you only get 4 inventory slots for gear, and the resource system is fairly basic. There is no real persistent progress, all unlocks are granted based on specific achievements rather than gradual progress.

A good game nonetheless, and if you liked FTL, this is probably a game for you.

You summed it up fairly well

The TL;DR version I'd say is that its a reskinned FTL but in a good way.
