DiRT 3 Complete Edition Message Board  

Today, 20th April 2015, Dirt3CE worked without a problem (several hours ago even), then I was stupid enough (as it seems to turn out) to not leave well good enough, and launched the trainer. Then launched the game. And suddenly I see the Dirt 3 logo, used to be a black screen before and I had to click that screen or press enter to see the AMD splash screen... well anyway it used to load the game.

Now after having started the trainer running the game from Steam... the Dirt 3 splash screen shows up, then blinks out and the game exits without any warning to the desktop.

Apparently some folks used to have OpenAL issues previously. I did not... still installed the "lastest" OpenAL... no difference.

To be fair apparently a patch update for Dirt3CE came out today, supposed to fix some wheel issue... maybe that broke the game in the past few hours.

But if not... what in the trainer could have broken the game?

the game has updated. if they added the 1000 steam triggers that were in the previous version of the game, then i am afraid this trainer is DOA and probably wont be supported any longer.

actually i am having the same problem.. and I didnt launch the trainer at all. this is the well known crash on start problem that has plagued this game since inception. I had to do some sort of rube goldberg process last time to get the game to launch.

At any rate, for those of you able to run the damn game, the trainer might still work for it.

for those of you who are like me and the game suddenly wont launch any more after the last patch, feel free to post solutions. i already tried the openAl installation twice, which hasn't done crap to help me launch the game.

you would think the developers would have done something about this by now, especially since they remastered the game. this problem occurred in the first iteration of this title.

thanks for looking into it... I just remembered something. While the update was running for some game on Steam my game HDD gave out a warning about space running out.

So I deinstalled Crysis, Crysis3, Trine, Trine 2, Need for Speed The Run, Need for Speed ProStreet, Mass Effect, Just Cause 2 and probably a few other games (via Windows deinstaller, Steam deinstall).

I suspect that one of these games installed something "properly" and that was the reason I do not recall ever having issues with Dirt 3, and Dirt 3 CE directly worked for me. After deinstalling above games... that something may have been removed.

Or... the devs of Dirt3CE messed up bigtime with the last patch.

I deleted the local content of DirtCE hoping a re-download and reinstall helps...

Update: I asked at the game's forum... others have the very same problem... dev messup it seems.

I am still using Catalyst 13.4... really old ... and it works... so no messing with it.

The re-download of Dirt3CE and reinstall of the game failed to show any change... so the devs better fix the messup on their side. sigh.

I was having these start up issues as well.

Try minimizing Steam or closing it altogether so It's not on your screen then go to the games directory and make a shortcut for dirt3_game.exe to your desktop and run it as admin.

I get a blackbox on my screen with no sound and when i click it or Alt-Enter the game starts. It's a pain in the a*s but at least it starts.

How ever the trainer will immediately crash the game as soon as you attempt to open it, without even activating it. They may have added code to block certain executable programs, codemasters are known for annoying file checking processes in their single player racing games and it sucks, anyway the trainer is nerfed. Hopefully you guys can update it.

EDIT: I spoke to soon, had It running for an hour closed the game opened trainer first then tried to open game and now It's back to showing the DiRT3 logo a blackbox and then the game closes.
F*ck it I'm done trying to figure It out, they've clearly screwed something up with this game after the patch.

After shutting down my PC last night, this morning it actually launched once... letting me turn up the gfx settings to desktop resolution and I naively quit the game again... and low and behold, while typing this I thought to relaunch it, "just to be safe"... and it just stopped launching again.

I double-checked for any automatic downloads Steam might have performed... nothing... so the game has not been updated.

Cannot test the trainer for obvious reasons.

So for anyone who wants to play the game, and if it launches, I would recommend you do not quit it, just keep it running... oh boy.

I am still not sure what extra DLC we are actually getting in the Complete Editing?... noticed nothing so far.
