I was really looking forward to this. They seem to have focused more on designing a city than micromanaging toiletries, and the digs at Simcity like offline support and bigger city plots are welcome.
However I don't think this comes anywhere near Simcity's of old. Simcity 4 wasn't just a city builder, it was a metropolis builder. Sadly the more recent entries to the genre have been little more than town builders. They just lack the ambition of that game. The less said about Cities XL the better.
So the gameplay is fun for what it is but I think I'll be sticking with SC4.
What do you guys think of it?
I love SC4 especially due to the circumstances surrounding EA's failure at Simcity 5 (2013) and eventual axing of Maxis to the nether.
This game is well worth the money considering people could pick it up for as little as 20-22 dollars. Talk about bang for the buck. Steam is a huge deal as not even two days after it's release there are custom buildings/roads and more. Save games of whole cities can be added or you can download mods and custom maps. The game has much more replay value than SC4/SC5 and previous titles it's just unfair.
If you want a metropolis builder this is certainly in the same league and it is significantly cheaper than any of it's counterparts at release with more community support. This is nothing short of a home run for Paradox and CO. The fact that Simcity 5 (2013) was such an epic failure makes it even more eye popping.

Sure w/ all the latest mods SC4 is great, but You obviously haven't played the CORE GAME in a long time.. SC4 did have some major flaws...
Skylines is nice, and is easily the best thing to happen to the city building genre in over a decade..
I have to say in my gaming time with SC4 was amazingly awesome connected my sims to it. Everything ran perfect in my veiw.
From what I have managed to get play time from CS. Its a nice city builder. But am racking it in.... Seems a tad be easy. I havent even got out of my first square. It seems to lack focus on proper runings. It doesnt feel right there.

That's definitely something I've experienced. Skylines and the others require your little patch to be efficient before you can expand, SC4 didn't place that restriction on you. If you wanted to be an idiot (yes) and zone your entire large tile city then you were free to.
As long as you kept the city from falling into disarray it would eventually build itself up, it would be a mess but that was ok. This freed the game to make the goal of designing an efficient city that much more difficult to achieve.
