So I have to ask; is the game actually good once you get past the pretty assets?
I love the original hw2 with mods like complex, warlords, and bsg fleet commander. Warlords likely won't be updated, the complex update likely won't be finished any time soon and I haven't heard one way or the other if Sens is going to update his bsg mod.
In short I'm not sure it's worth the $35. I wonder if I couldn't just get the new 4k meshes from someone and mod them into the original hw2 myself.
Is there any real benefit to getting the remastered collection aside from the visuals?
P.S. I only use the skirmish mode, so storyline aspects don't really apply either.

Well, putting the story aside, the fact that from what i have read (haven't played skirmishes yet) you can play using ships from HW1 and HW2 in the same game.....likely based on which faction you use, assuming factions are in the game.
Not to mention, it looks ALOT better and there are not compatibility issues like the original versions likely have for 64-Bit Windows 7.
I hate the dynamic difficulty though, but i think that likely only affects the campaigns, so that won't affect you.
This game comes with HW1- Remastered, HW2 - Remastered and the classic HW1 and HW2.
ELITE

I borrowed a friends account and played some of it yesterday. There's really nothing there beside the visual changes. The vanilla maps even seem smaller than in the original. So as it stands I won't be buying it until complex 10 comes out and gives it some actual depth and decent maps.
Skirmish does have constant difficulty settings as well as a dynamic one, though I didn't see anything about factions.
The funny thing is that I actually like the way original hw2 looked compared to the remastered version. The shadows are nice, and the depth of field and light emission from weapons fire also adds a bit of depth but the movement lines look poorly done (1 pixel thick black border looks jagged and shoddy) and the way asteroids look as they are depleted made me scratch my head.
As for issues with the original game and 64-bit OSes, I never had any issue with the original game on vista 64 or win7 64 while using the German 1.1 exe to bypass the DEP issue with the english exe.
