My suggestion is to jump on Steam and use their Broadcast system to watch people actually playing the game. You'll get a glimpse of what will be at your disposal in-game. You can even chat with the person playing with any questions you may have.

Rome 2 was a trainwreck on release, but Attila was fully playable on release, does it still have bugs?, yes

here's a quick Pro/Con list, from my 48 hours sofar

    Pro:

    - Family tree is back in, it adds immersion and makes you care about your generals, instead of just seeing them as throwaways
    - 4TPY is standard now, Generals live longer, and you get time to develope them, it also no longer takes 3-5 years sailing from one end of italy, to the other, something i always found to be silly
    - Agents now have to be levelt up, in order to unlock abilities, which again makes you care about them, as getting a new spy that can assinate, will take a while
    - Politics have gotten a major overhaul, alot more options, and again makes you care about your generals
    - Loyalty is back in, Civil war now makes sense, instead of Rome 2 where you just reach a set power rank, and then just random chance of civil war every turn
    - Most units have a upgradeable path now, via the tech tree
    - You can Raze and rebuild settlements, and atleast for me, the AI seems to understand when to use it, and when not to

    Cons:

    - Still suffers from horrible optimiazations, i bought a new pc a month ago, and i cannot max it out.
    - Food system, is now local, instead of empire wide, which, in my opinion forces you down specific builds in each and every province you own, as the local debuff is -1 happieness, and a whopping -25 % on all income from that province, really bad choice imo
    - Never thought i would feel this way after Rome 2, but unit roster feels too big, you have 4-5 units, that are exactly the same, apart from a few stat points
    - Same with building chains, it feels like there's too many buildings, with very little variations, and navigating the in-game wiki (which is horrible btw) to understand which building does what, largely feels like a unintendet puzzle
    - alot of new features that gets very little/aren't explained at all

The game does have some kinks sure, most of them are fixable, but overall, my recommendation is: BUY

They did specifically say that the game is not meant to maxed out with the current hardware. They said it would be maxed out with future hardware. Game still looks wonderful.

Yea, you keep beliving that, maybe pigs will fly someday too

and on top of that, i can't even maintain a steady fps on the max settings for current hardware

so yea, its the game that is horrible optimised, they just won't admit it

I have to agree that it sounds a lot like excuses, also what do they mean with "future hardware" current Gen titans will be as good as next gen not titans, are they including SLI in that excuse?

People with Titan, and SLI Titans even, can't max it out, so yea, it really is horrible optimised

I skipped Rome II because it didn't really entice me, plus numerous bugs, etc.
Is ATTILA better? the last Total war I really enjoyed was ShogunII, is it really just Rome II with new textures?
    I'd like your opinions.

You can build Wooden Palisades on non-provincial capital settlements, although it takes a hell of a long time because it's the last settlement upgrade: "Fortified Settlement".

10/10 would build ****ty walls again.

At the very least, Attila is certainly a more well polish turd at launch compared to Rome II, and it seems to feel more atmospheric and chaotic. I am clinching my buttcheeks trying to re-locate all my legions as Western Rome to Southern Gaul and Italy, using the Brittanic Isles, Hispania, and Africa as a buffer zone while I regroup my economy and public order, before reconquering(which actually happened historically.)

The battles are more-or-less on Par with Rome II's Emperor Edition with a bit more satisfying sieges. Save the missing mechanics of guard mode ONCE AGAIN and blood(**** you CA and Sega for making another Blood DLC, which will happen) The satisfying re-introduction of razing settlements to the ground and the introduction of the "Scorched Earth" abandon settlement mechanics(Although I can't burn down the Arena or Circus Maximus in Rome, which is complete nonsense. CA pls. You give me all these buildings in the battle that are for show that aren't destructible as a slap in the face, didn't you?) are all certainly welcome.

TL;DR as every other ****ing person has said about Attila: This is what Rome II should have been. A fairly solid release with good atmosphere. Sure, it didn't succeed Shogun 2, but it is certainly sitting in a better spot than Rome II did.

The UI is also significantly better organized because as we all know, Rome II's interface was all over the place, like a mad woman's breakfast.

Diplomacy is slighty better, but I only say slightly. It still suffers from the AI refusing to accept negotiations for no reason given other than some generic stats like "Hostile actions towards another faction" or "Grand Empire" instead of actual reasoning. They still try to extort the heck out of you with ridiculous offers, although not as bad as Rome II's.

Yes, Optimization is still a problem with Attila, but that's pretty standard for pretty much all Total War games post-Medieval 2, save Shogun 2's solid release with some hiccups.
    Specs:
    Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz
Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 660 Ti 3GB
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3
    HDD: Toshiba 1TB 7200rpm 3.5' SAT
    Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX AM3+

I get 45-60fps on Default Very High settings at 1920x1080, so that isn't too bad considering my hardware isnt very good.

I have a GTX 980 and my game runs perfectly smooth with maxed out graphics options. Not sure what your issue is :S

    My thoughts:
The "squalor" aspect is ruinous. Try to build an economically viable empire that doesn't die of disease every other turn, I dare you. It won't happen.

Unkillable faction: f**k the Huns. They. Won't. Die. Defeat every army they have, assassinate every general, kill Attila personally...they come back. This is the first time I've ever met this in a TW game and I've played all of them except for Napoleon. It sucks.

Everything else in the game is great, and a lot of fun. These two gripes will probably mean that I only ever play through a single campaign.

You have to kill Attila twice, before you can finish off the Huns, its intendet, and i welcome it, because lets face it, Rome 2 rarely, if ever, saw a big roman empire, and how fail would it be, for attila, not showing up in...attila total war

Regarding squalor, you could just have been unlucky with choice of faction, because some, have very serious issues with it true, but again, that is intendet, and some factions can almost entirely ignore squalor reducing buildings
