I hate crafting in other games just as much as anyone, but once you kill a dragon and get the level 4 rare materials Dragon Bone, Dragon Scales, and Dragon Webbing you wont need many others. You can kill your first dragon just after you get Skyhold in Crestwood. Any other materials you might use are simply to add on bonus stats.
If we could post pictures I would show you my crafted armor with a 70% higher armor rating and 3x as many bonus stats then what I can currently buy in stores.
And once people get the Dev Console worked out you can get your easy materials.
I look forward to that, i will just wait until then....which means i can use that time to play DA:O and DAII for the perfect save to bring into DA:I :-)
I would say the biggest advantage of crafting over buying/loot would be the lack of level restriction on crafted items. Given the right materials and plans you can craft gear far stronger then what your level would normally support.
Example: I have a crafted great sword that is on par with a weapon normally meant for level 17-18 at my current level of 11. Thanks to my first dragon kill, and a little trainer assistance .

So guyver how did the trainer help you do that? Infinite crafting material?
You can also sell 99 first then buy back 1 unit, hit Numpad 8 again check turn off then sell 99 again, rinse and repeat as many times as you like till 999 per crafting mat. Remember to Save your Game OFTEN.
It would be cool if you could spawn specific items, like i do on Skyrim, that would be soooo cool.....but that will have to wait.

Yes it did help me with infinite Crafting material and Perk points.
First there are Inquisition Perks that will give you the top Tier 2 schematics. For a Warrior this is 'Superior Vanguard Armor' and by putting Dragon Bone into the main armor slot gives it a base armor rating of 221. And if you use the Masterwork item Dragon tooth you have a 40% chance of taking the armor rating up to 248. All the other slots, including the arm and leg add-ons, are simply used to add additional bonus stats like fire resistance.
The Greatsword you get from the perk combined with Dragon Bone has 236dps. Combine that with a master rune you also get through perks and the chance boost of Dragon Tooth you get 296dps.
There are higher level gear you can make, found a tier 3 dagger schematic with 309dps, but for someone who wants great gear with minimal effort and isn't afraid to cheat this works.
