Whats your take on AC:Unity and do you think there is actually ANY room at all for them to improve the series or do you think the next one should be the final game?

below is my "2 cents" on the matter

My opinion is that they've already had Naval Combat in 3 games(AC3, AC4, AC:Rogue) so thats been beaten to death. They've got no real room to improve the combat system since they're practically done every weapon and gadget under the sun short of a railgun. Overall the gameplay is more or less growing stale with little room for improvement while at the same time they don't do well when trying to tweak it. Another thing I'd like to point out is that story wise the series is starting to feel stale because Unity had a lackluster MC and for the most part a bad story with uninteresting characters.

If they do the next game which is highly likely I'm hoping its the last one because the series has been going for 8 years now and its showing its age gameplay wise. I think its time to finish it on a high note and move on to developing sequels for Watchdogs or possibly new IPs because that series could actually be tied in as part of the AC universe thus helping the sales of future Watchdogs games. I say that because I've seen a lot of fan interest regarding the idea of AC and Watchdogs being in the same Universe. In AC:R its alluded to the fact that the Assassin order has been mostly wiped out in modern times. Would be interesting to see the silent abstergo employee main character from the past few games be given the choice to become a Templar and be able to give orders and call in support while choosing Assassin allows you to hack into the Ctos network and use it to your advantage.

    Yep dude,

I think now its starting to become a cash cow, I bowed out after the unceremonious ac3. The first game was wow, second was meh, and third suffered from the "Cash Cow DLC"

I think the gaming world at the present time is suffering from the "tried and true" IP system. I hate to say it the most old style and different game I've played in the past few years would have been murdered soul suspect, and that was a veritable pile of. Dont get me wrong, last of us, dead space, metro 2033 etc were great games in their own right. But its all starting to become a tad musty. But I digress.

In the short of it , I reckon the ac series may need to be retired or have a massive revamp ala "watchdogs", ie: modern day assassin etc, the details of which I'd have no idea on how to approach.

well they already had an easter egg in Watchdogs where in a side mission it shows "Olivier Garneu kidnapped by Brotherhood" and he was basically the glasses guy running abstergo in AC4 but his removal from his position before AC:Unity and AC:R just seems a little suspicious when you take into consideration that easter egg. They never showed him doing anything to deserve him being fired which kind of adds to the idea that he met a different fate.

Ubisoft has actually stated that both game series don't take place in the same universe but the situation with Olivier I just think its a smokescreen by Ubisoft for the future setting of AC series.

I'm seeing them a little differently. I'm only recently playing the whole series and I'm now in AC Revelations. When you say 1st, 2nd and 3rd, do you mean #1, #2 and #3 or in the order they came out, 1,2 and Brotherhood?

For me, AC-1 was meh. AC-2 was fantastic and Brotherhood was excellent as well, maybe just a tick below AC-2 but still a lot of fun. I have a few titles to go yet, but the interest is definately still strong. According to most, things start getting a little less fun somewhere around where I'm at now, in Revelations.

I was strictly referring to the 3 games that had naval combat when talking about the gameplay in the series as a whole.

More or less I think the combat was at its peak in Brotherhood but slowly started being dumbed down in Revelations and really got worse after AC3 with the only improvement being dual wielding. Many would also say the assassin system in brotherhood made the game too easy. My opinion on the assassin system is that it actually added to the game and its not as if you were forced to use them because you could simply play the game without them and then use them when you wanted to just screw around.

I was wondering which 3 games Easy meant in his post above but yes about the Assassins. You get 12 full-fledged A's waiting for you to call, and things get decidedly easy.

My biggest compaint if I have one with AC-B is I finally got all 12 to Assassin level so late in the game and I did them as soon as the game offered them, too. Then after that, there wasn't enough combat to really utilize them in a good fight beside you. There wer places to use them, yes, but I had hoped for more. Still, was a ton of fun.

So how about the next 3 games after Revs? I bought like 5 games at once during the Steam sale and all were 66% to 75% off which is what I had been waiting on for awhile. Are they plenty good enough to play, or what's your take on them? Time better spent elsewhere?

when I saw the assassin system I grinded the game before I played through the story and I tore up the town killing and looting guards.

I made more money killing guards with the assassins than I ever did with sidequests xD. If you go back and play it I recommend you level them up to their highest rank so you don't randomly lose them.

as for games after AC:Rev well
    - AC3 was a buggy god awful mess with really bad DLCs so i recommend skipping the game and simply watching a cutscene movie on yoube. Its literally one of the worst games in the franchise mostly because of the bugs, poor hit detection, crappy DLCs, and countering can be hit or miss(generally miss).
    - AC:Liberation is a smaller game similar to AC3 although I only played a little before I grew bored of it mostly because the story is irrelevant amongst the history of the Assassins vrs Templars.
    - AC4 is an amazing game with really good DLCs and has more of an adventurous feel
    - AC:Unity is a big step in the wrong direction having almost similar combat bugs/problems as AC3 and it doesn't add anything innovative outside of the phantom blade which essentially is just a crossbow.
    - AC:Rogue is one of the most refreshing games in the series when it comes to the story but I won't say much because it will ruin it although it has a main character you will actually grow to like just as much as Ezio.

Personally I think it is stale. Its the same with FF. Am actually tired of seeing or even hear the name.....Even though the ff games I have are good. I am not keen on AC it never hooked me and I still keep trying but na. I think they need to start looking at a new game all together.
