So since most of us (if not all) are using the wonderful trainer posted on this site, I thought it might be nice to post some of the strategies that saved me in some difficult situations.

True, the "No Melee" and "No Shooting" options do come in handy, but I'll bet I'm not the only one who favors the "mid-to-lite cheating way of doing things. With that in mind, here are a few ways to help you protect you against the alien using some of the other options such as "Max Supplies, Bullets, Power" options.

    1. Flares are handy against all enemies!
By far, the most useful item I found in the game was the flare. It will divert the attention of the alien, androids, as well as humans for a full 15 seconds. It may not seem like much, but when the bastard is blocking your way, it becomes a life saver.

    2. The Noisemaker is your friend.
The flare is useful to divert attention, but it does not actually draw the alien out of wherever it is to investigate it. I made it a habit of throwing a noisemaker with every flare to maximize the effectiveness of getting the alien out of a room, or forcing it to show itself so that I could move on to my next objective.

    3. Molotov ****tail - The best medicine
Once I found the molotov ****tail, I couldn't imagine how I survived as long as I did without it. It is particularly useful in its "trap" mode. Find a nice secluded room without any vent access (mainly above) and plop one of these down at every entrance. Now you've got yourself a safe room! When the alien sets one of these babies off, it goes running to the nearest vent and will stay there for a good 30 seconds or more, which is more than enough time for you to get where you need to go or to let yourself freaking breathe for once.

Naturally, most of these hints are only really useful if you have the "Mega Resources" cheat enabled, but they will allow you to more effectively play the game with still a little bit of difficulty in the mix.

Hope this helps you all as much as it helped me, and feel free to post other ideas!

With Alien isolation being one of the only horror games I'd wanna replay, I appreciate the tip, especially since my second playthrough will be legit, except mega resources, because let's be real, the android amount gets frustrating at times, gotta kick their ass with some bombing once in a while.

Well I hope you enjoy it again. After watching it being played. I was not impressed.

Cant say I'm impressed now that I know how the AI works, based on the guides I've read. The Alien is scripted to follow you, no matter where on the station you are, and at most give you 30 seconds (based on what you are doing and where you are) of free time before coming for you. So I imagine it will become a very frustrating game of rinse-repeat; hopping form hiding place to hiding place between activities and reloading saves many times. Apparently the lockers are the lowest chance of survival compared to other hiding places.

The "rinse repeat" bit doesn't bother me too much with the first 3/4 of the game. There is enough change in scenery (yes, the scenery does change and it goes through several metamorphoses as you continue on. There is a diversity in how you approach the alien because you are constantly finding new items and new ways to divert its attention and repel its attacks.

It is also incredibly satisfying to throw a noisemaker at a group of jerks who just shot at you, letting the alien tear them apart like ragdolls.

As for the scripting, yes the Alien is scripted... just like every AI in any game. From what I understand, it's not the scripting that bothers you, but the lack of diversity IN the scripting. The alien is on whatever level of the ship you are on, it would be pointless otherwise. The alien is constantly investigating different rooms on your level, however, which does add a bit of tension and strategy.

Bottom line is, this is the ultimate killing organism. It can sense where you are. Thus, it becomes a game on how to best avoid detection from this godly creature, rather than an FPS killfest.

I will say one thing, however. The game takes a huge drop after the main climax of the game. It should have ended at least 7 times before it actually did.

While I'll agree that this game too way to long to get to the end, I did enjoy it 150xs more than I did colonial marines...which seriously dropped the ball.

I've really enjoyed my play through, and the Alien isn't like what it sounds like, yes, there are times where its tethered to you in way, but its hunting you, it really doesn't like you, and ofcourse it would be able to sniff you out, but that's the best part of it all, your smarter than it is. It may be almost unkillable, but you can and will outsmart it, the wonders of being human.

Not sure I agree about the scripted alien AI views that some seem to have.

I could often hear the alien crawling around in the vents in an area, then be killed by it after it came out. Then reload, and find it wasn't even in the vents for a long period - and the other way around.
