The content is irrelevant. The problem is that all of their different game versions are at a different patch level. If that wouldn't be the case, you can just have one trainer that works for all. But right now I would have to create a different trainer for all of their different versions and for all upcoming versions in the future.
Speaking of that I see the game just patched again. So if I would have done that, what you say shouldn't be an issue, I would find myself having to update 4 trainers again, caused by just one game update. The game itself is 5 years old. On my opinion they should work on Long Dark 2, not changing business model, wiping savegames, splitting up community and game.
I can see your point. But it's fustrating.
So we just have to wait for the devs to work it out I guess

Make sure you are using the correct version for your game. Game has different versions for different platforms and with that you might have to use and older trainer.
