Yes. Read the steam forums. People get soft-banned all the time for using soul-memory-cheat while being connected to the servers.
Don't know about god-mode, but if other people bring attention to your account, you might be screwed. I wouldn't risk it.

The only people getting any kind of negative attention are the people using the trainers the way they weren't meant to be used: online.
Any time you have a game that features online PVP, you should never use the trainers. It's not just an ethical issue, but a moral one. Why would you hack yourself then fight someone that isn't hacked? That seems... really insecure.
At any rate, the trainers are safe to use in offline mode. Just click "file" in Steam and choose "go to offline mode". Then run Dark souls. Obviously it will tell you that it can't get through to the servers and ask if you want to continue in offline mode.
I played as much of the game as I could stand online before I started using the trainer. A whole "0.5 hours" and that's exactly what my Steam profile says. I haven't been online since then. There's no point.
If you want to play with your friends, play the way they are (or should be) without hacks and without trainers.
I hate to say it, but if you end up banned after the obvious and easy way to avoid it, then that's your own fault.
