S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Lost Alpha Message Board  

So the STALKER series is my favorite game series of all time by far, yet I had never heard of this mod and after Call of Pripyat I thought, sadly, the legend had died. I almost exploded when I saw this trainer but then lost the excitement when I saw it was just a mod. My question is: is it worth getting?

if you have a retail dvd version of shadows of chernobyl yes. otherwise no. it dont work with steam and gog edition.

Right, sorry to break it to you but you don't even need any copy of the game to play it, Steam, GOG or Retail. My question really was 'Is it worth it as in - is it 'comparable' to the actual game'.

But yes, I have all three titles on Steam (and Clear Sky on retail aswell )

This is a stand alone game even tho it is a mod. It is a huge download 4 parts from ModDB. Large game and I run it without any of the others installed just fine. All on its own. It is worth it. a bit buggy right now but there patching quickly.
This is a worthy mod that adds a lot of content including vehicles to drive. Tons of quests some new mobs new areas,Etc
The developers have done a great job on this even tho it is a bit buggy right now.
But what game isn't?

hmm but they state on their homepage it requires the game dvd

Q: How will this work with Steam version of SoC?
A: Lost Alpha currently doesn’t need to be installed over SoC, only needs the original disc in dvd drive. We haven’t tested it yet with Steam version.

That was probably old and they haven't updated it. I'm playing it perfectly fine, right this minute, no discs, no steam install, no other stalker related media whatsoever. You do NOT need the original game installed, or the original cds/dvds. Not even a no-cd crack necessary. This is being sent via my laptop while I play it on my gaming rig where the game looks beautiful and is much more stable with the newest patch release. Yes, this game is worth getting. With DX10 enabled and all the bells and whistles turned on it's gorgeous. The interfaces and game dynamics are much more interesting now, such as having to put ammo on your belt to use it instead of taking it out of your backpack. a lot more realistic i think.
