A game that "supports" mantle technology does not mean that it's been build around AMD/ATI GPU's.

It's just one feature that it also supports.

You actually see the NVIDIA logo when you start the game. (PhysX)
Also: no problems at all here with the game, running EVGA GTX 680 HydroCopper FTW @1254 MHz.

If people have problems with it, it's not because of NVIDIA. Maybe it's bc of old drivers or some features that don't run well on their GC.
You can edit the ThiefEngine.ini and disable some stuff an see if that helps. Just make the file read only after editing, as the brilliant game devs decided to reset all values that are not changeable via the in-game UI back to default values when you edit any option in-game.

The problem is when running x64.

Just rar the x64 file and duplicate the x86 one, and rename it to x64. Solves the choppy/stutter issues. Once that is done, you should no longer be dropping down to 17 fps at random intervals.

My machine is a beast, doing the above fixed the fps dips and it's constantly 150fps+ on everything maxxed up.

I tried what you suggested and my FPS did jump to over 100...

But here's the thing, I ran it with the x64 and I was still getting 65+. Even when I was recording and streaming I was getting 55-60 frames. (My recording software caps at 60.)

    AMD FX 8350 8 Core
    16gb DDR3 PC3-14900
GTX 680 - Running 1920 at full graphic settings.
As of Monday I was running the latest drivers, think some new ones came out.
I also have my paging file turned off.
This can cause a lot of problems for people I've noticed in performance. A lot of gamers argue it, but I'm work on computers for a living and as a programmer I know it's better to be off.

So for those of you having issues, try turning it off.

Grammar and punctuation is the difference between; "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse." ...and... i helped my uncle jack off a horse.

    /facepalm

Now its running at a 4GB limit in 32bit mode.

I run fine in x64 also.

People just sometimes have the unfortunate bad hardware conflicts with this game and/or possibly bad optimization of their PC - like not keeping it in tune, by defragging properly and so forth.

Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

And YET, YET the game looks no different playing the 32bit version as playing the 64bit version. And it doesn't play any differently except it eliminates the horrible chopiness some people are getting. What "special" features are available in the game by running the 64bit instead of the 32bit? NONE. What benefits does the extra ram over 4gb do for the game? None that I have heard of.

This issue has nothing to do with hd fragmentation as I run mine off a fast SSD. Also, if it was bad PC optimization then it would likely affect both the 64bit AND the 32bit versions. Also it would affect other games as well. For some reason the 64bit version runs like a dog for some people. Even with those that can play the game fine with the 64bit version should test out the 32bit version and check out your FPS. I'll bet they are higher for many. Ill bet you can use the extra FPS you get with the 32bit version and jack up some of the visual settings even higher. Nah, its a poorly optimized 64bit version.

The question isn't what advantages of additional RAM can do for you, but rather how it's used. The CPU can address much more data at the same time than a 32-bit executable can which is what causes that boost in performance over choppiness you mentioned. Sometimes improper drivers or poor hardware choice (i.e. a CPU that isn't fast enough regardless) bottleneck the performance though.

    Your bitterness, I will dispel
