I always complained about people complaining about having lag and stutter, Because I never get it. I don't wanna say anything bad, but memory is usually the biggest issue. Some does have leaks, but due to the high amount of memory I got. I don't have to care for it, I think it's very playable and streamable which I did. But one thing I know that works. Decrease graphics to low or something then you can play without trouble.

I have 16gb of ram 1600hz, most of the games dont need more than 8gb.
If other demending games run smoothly and some doesnt than it can be a software issue or a bad driver issue usually a display driver.
I bought the gtx770 week after it came out, it took Nvidia about 4 months to release a proper driver for it.
Also many new games now run smooth after several patches, in the release notes it's also mentioned that the lagging or stuttering issues have been resloved for some setup's.

Most of the games don't need more than 4GB cause they are 32bit Binaries and that is their limit.

64bit binaries like Thief has can utilize more RAM.

16GB is overkill and I keep telling that to peeps, its only useful if you plan on doing any heavy work.

Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

Bingo Bongo Bango. DAB has hit the nail with the hammer perfectly on that note.

I've seen somewhere on the net that the devs of this game will issue a patch in march to fix all the mentioned problems

For myself it was EXACTLY like the op described. No matter what graphics settings I used, it was stuttering so bad and pausing and the FPS were radically jumping up and down.

The FIX for me was to use the 32bit binary in the Binaries\Win32
folder. Completely fixed the issue. The 64bit version has SEVERE problems in a LOT of systems. I have seen TONS of posts on various forums. The FIRST STEP in resolving a lot of performance issues with this game is to use the 32bit binary, then begin playing with graphics settings. The issues with the 64bit version has nothing to do with your graphics settings - its just severely bugged for a LOT of people.

This is not the only game that has had bad 64bit version bugs. I have seen it several times before.

Oh, and this game does NOT need more ram than the 32bit version can utilize. It looks just as good playing the 32bit as the 64bit.

Not experiencing any kind of slowdown or lag or even input-lag in this game with everything maxed at 2560x1440.
    FPS are constant at 60+
    Using 64 bit binary.

I deactivated some ugly-features like blurring and distortion because I find them unrealistic and deactivating them actually improves your graphics quality.
Maybe those could be causing slowdown for you?

You wrote your cpu only runs at 3.33 GHz (Hexacore doesn't help in games at ALL). Some games profit more from higher frequencies then others. Maybe you could try getting that up a bit. Most CPU's are easily OC'd by some hundred MHz.
Instead of using a SATA drive, you could also try getting a gaming SSD. That's much faster for games that often load many small files.
If all else fails, try disabling ALL graphics features or lowering to the minimum. If the problem does not persist there, try enabling the features one at a time and see of you find any feature that causes the trouble.

All in all I found Thief 4 a really well done port so far. Better then any I've seen.

No Issues here and I have everything maxed out and running at 2560x1440 resolution.

For me the big one is almost always shadows, turning down/off shadows almost always sorts out my issues with higher end games.
Consoles... where we're going we don't need consoles!

Exactly, the only reason I got 16gb is because I'm studying MCSE and I need it for my virtual machines.

    Cool.

Also I got Thief from GMG, installed on Steam, played around with it, hardly any lag for me at all.

But then again I always keep my HDD's well defragged etc. So no idea why people have problems with it, unless it is specific CPUs which is the culprit.

Or perhaps people being silly and setting funny graphical settings that their GPU can't handle?
