Is Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs worth getting? I have heard that everything great about the original is either dialed down or taken out completely.

I saw a review that said that being in the dark doesn't effect my character's sanity anymore. Is this game as scary as the first one?

Amnesia The Dark Descent is a much better game than Amnesia A Machine For Pigs.

A Machine for Pigs, is just not nearly as scary. There's no inventory system like in the first Amnesia game which makes the game feel like it's holding your hand. The lantern has unlimited fuel which leaves you without having to fear/worry about running out of oil and stuck in the dark and panicking like in the first Amnesia. There's no fear meter like there was in the first one either.

The game is just not scary at all to me like the first one was. Plus it's a much shorter game than the first one and less creatures, ghosts, etc.

The best game to get right now between A Machine for Pigs and Outlast - is Outlast. Outlast is as scary to me as Amnesia The Dark Descent was.

I'll provide a counter argument here and say that while yes, Outlast is definitely the more nerve-wracking game, and yes, Machine For Pigs isn't as scary as The Dark Descent, nothing can match either of the Amnesia games for sheer atmosphere. If you're a person like me, who finds that the scariest part of games are the creepy quiet moments in between the chases and the jumps, then I wouldn't pass on A Machine For Pigs.

I'm about 3 hours into Outlast and I have yet to find anything like that so far. But I'm about 2 hours into A Machine for Pigs and the game is postively rife with those tense buildups of dread as the story unfolds.
