Okay, so the OFLC has granted permission for SR IV to be released in Australia even though we're allowed R18+ games they're forcing a "low violence" edition upon us. My question is exactly what does 'low violence' entail, do I still get to beat the snot out of things or do they simply just vanish when they're killed (it doesn't unlock for me until the 11th)

Only difference that I know of is that AU doesn't get the Shaundi side-mission with "alien narcotics" because it gives a positive reward for drug use - not sure if you can get the Rectifier weapon. I ended up getting the RoW version gifted from the US - all that stuff's in it; all the "oh it'll region lock" was just scare tactics to make it look like they were being hard on it for the OFLC.

Did some digging and found this

    29 July 2013

    MEDIA RELEASE
Saints Row IV classified Refused Classification

A three-member panel of the Classification Review Board has unanimously determined that the computer game Saints Row IV is classified Refused Classification.

In the Review Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV could not be accommodated within the R 18+ classification as drug use related to incentives and rewards is not permitted.

Computer games classified RC cannot be sold, hired, demonstrated or advertised in Australia.

The Review Board convened on Monday 29 July 2013 in response to an application from Koch Media GmbH, to review the decision made by the Classification Board on 19 June 2013 to classify Saints Row IV Refused Classification.

In reviewing the classification, the Review Board worked within the framework of the National Classification Scheme, applying the provisions of the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995, the National Classification Code and the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games. This is the same framework used by the Classification Board.

The Review Board is an independent merits review body. Meeting in camera, it makes a fresh classification decision upon receipt of an application for review. This Review Board decision takes the place of the original decision made by the Classification Board.

The Review Board’s reasons for this decision will appear on the Classification website when finalised.

That aside, does anyone know if it's possible for steam support to change the region on your game so you get the full content ?

as owe84 said, just get someone you trust, to buy you the normal version and then gift it, far as i know, that should bypass those silly country restrictions

    silly rules are silly

It is a very silly rule, considering the 'refused classification' was for shaundi's side mission for drugs. The version removes that and makes the game 'tame'. So yes I'll be getting an international version

It might not work. Considering if the game is tagged for other regions than your own you will get the not available for your region or area and probably be forced to use the low violence one, Also not I would advise not to using a vpn to bypass it as there is a risk where you will be banned and lose everything. The vpn rule I read the other day also after being told do not use a vpn again or it will be instant ban.

the blood dlc for shogun 2 was banned in....germany i think it was, but people bypassed it by simply having people from outside gift it to them, and it worked fine

I don't think it's possible to "convert" a copy, and if you already have SRIV Low Violence version, someone gifting you the US version (etc) might not work; it might say you already have the game (same Game ID, different sub-IDs).

But yeah, if stuff like this happens again with other games (and I'm sure it will), try and get someone from the US etc to gift it to you - I got the RoW version and it's still working as a non-Austfailia edition (re-did that mission again the other day).

edit:: same with L4D2 when we got the censored version - US gifting FTW.
