in relation to what you said about skyrim

Skyrim in actual fact pushed the ps3 hardware to its limit so much when it first came out, that the game was utterly unplayable past afew hours into the game, they did eventually fix it but they had to reduce the graphical settings among other things a considerable amount ( i have it on 360,pc and ps3 - long story), they also had a huge problem with the DLC's but i cant remember the specifics on them

    - imho the fix they did wasnt really a fix, it was more a work around to solve an issue that couldnt otherwise be dealt with, without taking the ps3 back to square one

I actually stayed away from Skyrim on the consoles for this reason. Was there a difference in playability on the consoles?

I can think of a couple reasons:

Development on this game started in tandem with Uncharted 3, so it was easier for the two teams to both be working on an established engine. In a tight knit studio like Naughty Dog, this allows the two teams to help each other out when they need it a whole lot easier than would be the case if they were working with two different engines. Had The Last of Us been a PS4 game from the get go, one team would be working on the Cell version of the Naughty Dog Engine and one would be working with a brand new, untested x86 version.

Another reason is continued interest in the PS3. The PS3 gets most of its buzz from indie arthouse titles, PlayStation Plus and exclusives and of those three, the exclusives have the most clout. Releasing three big name exclusives in the same year - God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls keeps gamers feeling like the PS3 is a supported platform leading into the PS4 launch.
