yes technically farcry3 has a better zone but still i think farcry2 has more soul in it.

I think most of the bad reviews FC2 received were because a lot of people were expecting a sequel to the first Far Cry. It's almost a completely different game with only the running theme of being stranded, lost, surviving and exploring a secret remaining... and shooting a lot of stuff... a lot of stuff. That plot is, of course, part of many games so FC2 just seemed to be one of many and not a part of the original Far Cry story/experience and many expectations of that let people down.
Compared to FC2, FC3 is quite similar. But FC3 zones are much improved and the gameplay has more substance and abilities and it's much easier to be a stealthy player... also, not every single thing is trying to kill you... there's actually neutral and good people that do not want to see your blood splattered in the dirt for their amusement. Driving is a little more realistic. Note, I did not say it was realistic to the point of being a driving game, it is not a driving/racing game and any complaints about driving not performing up to "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" should be reminded this is a FPS, vehicles are transportation, nothing more.
The story in FC2 felt better. You, a mercenary, hired to kill a single target, failed. Your target, who saved you and gave you a fighting chance, now whats you to help him... and find him and do your best to stop him. Plot twists and intrigue push the story as well as needing the help of, and seeking out the most ruthless people you can find to offer your aid in return for information and getting a step closer to your goal. In the end, it all makes sense... kind of.
The story in FC3 just isn't that deep. Yes, the gameplay is really well done. The action is good. The scenery is prettier. But, the characters are a little two dimensional. I understand why the main character is compelled to do what he does, but it doesn't deliver the deep connection or bonds that allow me to empathize with those he's trying to save. There's almost no explanation why his friends act the way they do, self absorbed, selfish and not the least bit concerned with anything other than self pity and hoping to one day totally forget about their whole vacation. Sure, I understand that one girl throws all of her time in to fixing a boat so she doesn't have to think about what's going on. Sure, I understand that one guy really, really loves to get high and would rather be medicated instead of facing what's happening. Sure, I understand that other girl wants to get home because she's sad she missed an acting audition and a promising job... wait, No... I Do Not Understand that! WTF! People are dead and missing and she cries because she missed an interview... what they hell is that?
Given the opportunity, I suggest play both Far Cry 2 and 3, as well as the first Far Cry. Just keep in mind they are all separate games. Play FC2 for the story, and play FC3 for the game. Just keep in mind none of them are sequels. You'll be happy with them all.
