I was wondering if anyone knew a way to rename save games to be more descriptive. If you edit the names in the dir I'm guessing it'll throw off the engine from finding them.
I started a new save and couldn't find my original game because the saves got mixed up. I took a wild guess that Game 1 Game 2 is how you distinguish them. And a note for others, backup your saves.

Grammar and punctuation is the difference between; "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse." ...and... i helped my uncle jack off a horse.

Well, I'm sure it may be obvious, but I'll post this anyway. In the folder, saves are numbered, 1 being the oldest, and the highest number being the most recent. Like you said as well, they are labeled Game 1, Game 2, etc.
Personally, I routinely remove saves from the folder that I no longer need, just so I know which ones I'm currently working with. (As well as saving a previous game after starting a new one, JUST in case I accidentally overwrote it with the new one - which I did. Luckily it was backed up!)
So no, you have no control over naming your saves...I really don't understand why they didn't implement this. I'd recommend taking it to the official forums. If Microprose could do it back in the days of DOS, I see absolutely ZERO reason for them not to be able to implement it now.

Good point, I was wondering why they would not include that option. Seems like such an easy option to provide.

The game also restricts how many saves you can have at maximum. I'm sadly one of those people who absolutely hates deaths (not really a min maxer, but if it's on my side, I want it to stay alive at all times. No exceptions) so I save after every successful turn of killing a wave of aliens (Done two games already, got the first mission down to an art form now. Anything with sectoids I can finish usually in about a minute).

Yea I am like Darkgear, but my idea is ONLY a guess. It may be because thats the way it was in the original. Also may have to do with Ironman but I agree. I try and have a start save, 2 old saves, a current save and a mission one.
