    Can you explain the way to 999 points a little better?

    Like what has already been posted about it, you need to find the race affinity in sharedassets17.assets, located in EndlessSpace_Data of your Endless Space install. Open it up with Notepad++, then look for whatever affinity you want to use, I suggest using the name of the race, as that will be much faster. If you want more pick points for racial traits, you need to edit the Cost= part of the entry to whatever you want.

    The thing you need to keep in mind when editing the game files is that because modding tools have not been released yet, the dev team is working on making the game more moddable, you have to keep the number of characters and white spaces the same as the unmodified file, to check this in Notepad++ go to View > Summary and then look at the Current Document Length entry and compare it to an unmodified version, which hopefully you have made a back-up of the file you are editing, if it is not the same your game will crash, if it is you will be fine.

    Happy modding.

    or be more specific (at last it works for me)
    somehow the Program check the diggits who are used for affity.

    So each entry has 2 diggits it´s sum´s up to a number.
    If you are want to change some to 3 diggits , you are called
    to shift 1 diggit.

    i.E.

    you want to have a Terran Affinity of 999 (+1 diggit)
    you need to change the Affinity of another Empire to a affinity of 9 (-1 diggit)

    thats how it works for me without crashes.

    Anyone else wo know a better way , please share

    Maybe not the smartes way , but for SMALL modding´s quite usefull

    I'm still not quite clear on what I have to mod to have more points to use when making a custom race. The instructions are very confusing at least for me.

    @Draco

    1. Locate Endless Space Directory, in my case this directory is found here. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\endless space

    2. Open Up EndlessSpace_Data

    3. Look for sharedassets17.assets and right click on it and use open with notepad++ (notepad++ can be downloaded from here notepad-plus-plus.org/)

    4. In notepad++ press ctrl+f

    5. Type in find what the following Affinity Name="AffinityTerran"

    6. Now you have found pretty much the total amount of trait points for the Empire which is found in cost
    Affinity Name="AffinityTerran" Family="Affinity" Hidden="false" Cost="65"

    7. As the game tracks the file's character count you must ensure that the number of characters in the file when unedited is the same as when you edit it.

    8. By modifying Cost you can Change the maximum amount of trait points to preserve the character count you can only modify the maximum traitpoints from 0-99

    9. You can modify the maximum traitpoints further by reducing another race's (located below Terran) Cost by a digit which will allow you to add another digit to the race you wish you modify.

    Example

    Affinity Name="AffinityTerran" Family="Affinity" Hidden="false" Cost="65"

    Affinity Name="AffinityEmperor" Family="Affinity" Hidden="false" Cost="65"

    these are the original values for cost by changing them we can reach 999 trait points.

    Affinity Name="AffinityTerran" Family="Affinity" Hidden="false" Cost="999"

    Affinity Name="AffinityEmperor" Family="Affinity" Hidden="false" Cost="6"

    I hope this explains it enough for you because I don't think I can explain it much further

    Yes, that explained it perfectly Thanks. As a side note I was reading the main forums and they said you could delete whitespace to make the char count remain the same since a space is still counted.

    Guys, I found a solution...

    Put the number you want after "Cost=", for example "9999"

    then, (use Notepad ++ for this) go to lines "25953", "25954" and "25955" and delete two of the "#" in any of those (two if you added two numbers to the "Cost" variable, and so on)

    This way you can have all the points you want without changing another races points.
