I followed all the instruction but can't make it work; will this work in windows 7, or do I need to do something different?

(I did manage to work around the copy protection and changed the lua file successfully)

First. I went to www.ubisoft.com and searched for the latest patch (1.4), downloaded it and installed it.

Next. I clicked on Start > Computer > Far Cry\Bin32 folder.

Then Right click on FarCry.exe and selected properties from the list. I then selected the Compatibility tab and checkmarked the Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3), down bottom, under Privilege Level I checkmarked Run this program as an admimistrator.

Now it is working fine in Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

    My computer specs are:
    Intel i7 870 @2.93
    8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
    Nvidia GTX470 1280MB GDDR5

Thanks for the help, Mark, but I followed your directions with slight variation: The patch was attempting to install files to C:\Program Files (86)\Ubisoft\Crytek\FarCry\

however, there was not "Crytek" subfolder in my computer, so I changed the destination directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\FarCry\

And after the installation finished, I Changed the shortcut I had created ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -DevMode) to run as admin and in WinXP compatiblity mode.

I ran the trainer program and then opened the shortcut, clicked BackSpace and tried some of the commands, but couldn't get any of them to work.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

I can't get the BACKSPACE to turn god mode on either. I saw somewhere (I think it was GameFaqs.com) that god mode using the -DEVMODE method, does not work for every one. I guess we are amongst those that it doesn't work for.

I'll give EvilSpenZer's editing of the devmode.lua a try and let you know and report back on how I go with it.

In the mean time, I'm using a trainer I found at game copy world dot com that works really well. If you want to try it, go there and look for the Far Cry v1.4 +12 TRAINER. It works great.

One other thing, I never install games in the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) because the Windows 7 security is far too strict on anything in there. If you try to edit the devmode.lua, you may not be ale to save the changes. So it is better to have them in, for example, C:\Games, or better still, not on the C: drive at all. I have my games installed on other partitions (D: and E: drive partitions).

    Hope this helps.

I tested the "cheat" provided by EvilSpenZer (2nd post in this topic: Link), and it works. As he says, it puts a GOD 0, in the top left of the screen, when you press BACKSPACE and activate it. Your health still drops to 0%, but it jumps back to 100% immediately. Every time it reaches 0%, it adds to the GOD 0, so if it reads GOD 16, your health has reach 0% 16 times, but you have not died at all.
