After my inactive WoW account was hacked twice, I decided to break down and buy the Blizzard Authenticator. But you can also get the application for Apple i devices, Android, BackBerry, and Windows Phone 7
That is not too terribly pricey, but it still adds to the total dollar amount one has to spend in this game. That further leads me to believe that this game's release was an epic fail to say the least. If this kind of thing were inherently necessary, then it should have been offered with the game itself. At the bare minimum it should have been offered to those that pre-purchased as a bonus for doing so. Granted, this is just all my opinion. However, I know that I am not the only one completely turned off by all of the negative press and the additional costs that come with this game.
I have said it before in another thread, I want to want this game. I thoroughly enjoyed its predecessors. Unfortunately, their is little to no likelihood that I can bring myself to shell out the sixty dollar start-up fee just to get going in this game. Obviously, I have considered it or else I would not be posting in the Diablo III message boards, but again, it just does not seem worth it at all.
I don't think its any site/database attack at all. People who are attacked mostly are people who have been duped into going to sites that promise one thing and end up being attacked via scripts on the site that scour for usernames and passwords or installs a keystroker/trojan.
People who have done this will hardly admit they did what they did, and thusly start blaming other things instead of themselves.
Only a small group of people have been duped into the sites but not intentionally, either through ads or just links from a reputable site like on forums etc.
I have to agree with DABhand there are those sites that do that. Also there is other games that have had there accounts hacked to. So do not mark it down just cause of how blizzard do there things. Even with a shed load of protection it will still be broken it is just how long will it take.
I personally am getting an Authenticator cause I have my WoW account to. Also if I may state. Those with tiny passwords on any sort of account change them ASAP to at least a minimum of 16 characters and make sure they are Upper and lower case and if possible punctuation and numbers in it. Refrain from using words as these tend to be easy to work out.
