I was thinking that myself, that that planet the StarGazer and kid are on, is the one where the the Normandy made a crash-landing after being torn out of that mass effect corridor.

Same here. I figure that depending on where they crash landed, it could take a long time to get to by FTL. So the Normandy crew will have set up a colony of sorts, which would grow as the situation required, then they'd start hooking up, having kids, etc etc.

So I think the old man and the child were the descendants of the old crew, especially since the kid says "the Shepard", not just "Shepard". A reference like that is more likely to come from stories being passed down through generations from Father to Son, rather than history lessons told throughout the Galaxy.

Yeah, I mentioned that before, I hope that the next game based on the Mass Effect universe is set after the events of ME3

if it is not shepard based then it could be in the past im sure some of you would love to play as a rachni disparately trying to hold off the vicious krogan horde from destorying your civilisation and home world(not all rachni were under the control of the reapers)
